fight increasingly bizarre monsters! such as the panzther, your own tongue, the same sneaky bastard lion fifteen times in increasingly elaborate disguises, a bear strapped to the back of another bear, a seventy-headed hellhound, evolution's greatest failure, the socktopus, spiderkitties, and hundreds more! if you're feeling creative, you can even write your own monsters and submit them to us in exchange for shiny things! there are also massive titans which require a team of players to take down, scores of upgrades available to weapons, armour and mounts, upgradeable combat implants and any number of other interesting twists. teach a robot to love! improbable island contains several novels'-worth of story, in chunks small enough to not disrupt gameplay. although the plot touches on quantum physics, post-emp technology, media fixation, zombies, robots, mutants and foul, glistening swamp brothels, like any halfway-decent sci-fi the story's ultimately about people , bimbling along and helping each other out as best they can. npc's are detailed, vibrant and colourful, and propel the story along paths you choose - but the thousands of eager and experienced roleplayers on improbable island also have their own characters, which are even more fertile grounds for your imagination! build a place of your own on the island! the island is home to many places, both canonical and player-built. you can build a structure on the world map and describe it in any way you want - people have made everything from tiny underground cavern-houses to sprawling cities with thousands of "rooms." a simple, drag-and-drop programming interface lets you alter descriptions based on aspects of the viewing player or their actions - it's possible to create massive choose-your-own-adventure-style stories, even complete game engines, within the island's "places" system. no other text adventure caters so much to the desires of its roleplayers! make new friends! the island has a huge community of experienced roleplayers, with players of all sorts all over the world. our demographics are enormously diverse, and our players are friendly and helpful. our mods keep the game clear of trolls, bigots, and dickheads in general - this is not your average online game community! so what's the catch? you're lying on your back in the middle of a grassy clearing. as suspected, a quick glance down confirms that you're as naked as the day you were born. a bulky video camera, mounted in a tree directly above you, pans disinterestedly down your body. it lets out a little whirring noise, one that seems to say "yeah, whatever. i've seen better." about twenty paces ahead, the clearing gradually gives way into dense jungle. you look around you and confirm that this is the case for all directions. except one. a crudely-built wooden fort stands ten paces to your right. the wooden stakes in the ground extend about forty feet in the air, and you can't quite tell how far they go along horizontal dimensions. think. think. where am i?
